Scots surprise
It must have been to do with the pronunciation of some word, I don't recall exactly, but I can remember the North American speaker referring to the "en-fay-sees on the see-libel". The St Andrews University conference on "Hebrews and Theology" provided us with a variety of people and ideas to ponder. From the Italian patristics professor in a wheel chair to the Mexican Adventist, they all had their stories to tell. The star speakers were the aged Morna Hooker of Cambridge and the knowledgeable Harold Attridge of Yale. 120 attended and it was a great three days. The biggest surprise of the conference were the Scots. They reminded me of the proven goalscorer that Albion Rovers once signed, who went on to not score a goal. For a nation renowned for its theologians and expository preachers we were struggling to put in an appearance.
