Light on fiscal policy

Today's sermon was on Jesus being the light of the world (Jn 8). The preacher, Colin Dow, spoke ably on just about every verse in the passage v12-30.

But I still remained uncertain about the meaning of one verse: Jesus spoke these words in the temple area near "the place where the offerings were put" (v20).

Why did Jesus says this in that area? What is the significance of this great discourse being in the treasury?

Could it be because the "place where the offerings were put" was in the Women's Court?

Or are you fishing for something else?

  2. Or is to do with a background context of the covetousness of the Jewish leadership? Especially as Jesus is debating with the Pharisees.

Don't have any strong view, but it is mentioned in the text. But why?
